Details on Tom DeLay

Details on Tom DeLay's decision to quit his reelection fight are coming out fast and furiously. As always, Michelle Malkin is on top of everything. She links to Mike Allen's Time magazine story, additional details from Newsmax, and a DeLay interview with the Galveston County Daily News. A surprisingly good post at DailyKos is already discussing the finer details of Texas election law, specifically whether or not the Republican Party can replace DeLay on the ballot, since he has already won the primary. Reliably enough, the commenters on the DailyKos post are already in near-orgasmic raptures over the DeLay news. DailyKos links to a detailed post at Swing State Project which, while having an obvious Left bias, has some excellent information on (very confusing) Texas election law. Washington Post has a pretty thorough story covering the latest developments, including the note that once DeLay officially leaves the race, the Texas Republican Party will name a new candidate. My two cents' on DeLay: He may or may not be guilty of criminal actions, but he certainly walked too close to the ethical line on more than one occasion. If they haven't done so already tonight, Democrats will shortly be handing out "Culture of Corruption" t-shirts and talking points, as they appear to have no actual platform otherwise. DeLay's situation alone will not win back the House for Democrats, but it's another brick in the wall. Technorati: ,
