On the Alito nomination - Ethnic slurs, unsigned memos, allegations of Mob and KKK sympathies - yes, the wingnuts are certainly sticking to the high road in the debate over the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. Captain Ed of Captain's Quarters has the full monty on the memo, and Hugh Hewitt wrote about the intimation of KKK sympathies and interviewed the crayon-toting scribbler who suggested it. Keep a close watch at Hugh Hewitt, Captain's Quarters, Michelle Malkin, and Powerlineblog for everything you need to know about the nomination. AND, while you're at it, write your Senators in support of the nomination. Being a native Californian who is "represented" by Sens. DiFi and Boxer, this is rather pointless for me, but I shall give it the old college try anyway!
On Harry Reid - Unhinged is the only way to describe the behavior of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) today. First, he violated Senate rules by verbally attacking a member of the Senate (Pat Roberts, R-KS) and proceeded to violate Senate custom by invoking Rule 21 (with the help of Dick Durbin, D-IL) without notice to Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN). (See Michelle Malkin and Hugh Hewitt for more details on Rule 21.)
On Unhinged
- As linked to the left and above, Unhinged
is Michelle Malkin's newest book. After writing about the terrorist threat in Invasion
and In Defense of Internment
, Ms. Malkin takes on (okay, continues to take on) liberals gone wild. Today is the official launch date for Unhinged
, and Ms. Malkin notes it with an interesting (okay, frightening as all get out) post entitled Unhinged: The Mugshot Collection. Congratulations on the new book, Ms. Malkin! (And since I've referenced Unhinged
five times in two paragraphs, I'm going to call you Michelle from now on, okay? LOL)
On What I'm Reading Now - Just finished reading Pretty Boy Floyd
, one of Larry McMurtry's older novels. Excellent writing and a very enjoyable read. Gives you a good feel of the Midwest during the Depression years. I also recently finished a re-read of Stephen King's The Green Mile
- a great book that made an excellent movie a few years ago with Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan. It seems one has to read a Stephen King book several times to pick up all the little nuances and nuggets he hides for the careful reader (or re-reader). Just starting Charles Dickens' Great Expectations
. And of course, I shall in the near future be reading Unhinged
(six times in three paragraphs, Ms. ... um, Michelle)!
On Captain Ed's First Mate - Welcome home and get well wishes to The First Mate over at Captain's Quarters. She's recovering from a bout with pneumonia, and I think we're all glad to see that the score is First Mate 1, Pneumonia 0. Not a fun illness to have, and I can speak from past experience on that point. Anyway, get well soon!
On This Blog - I'm pretty darn new to this blogging thing, and I'd really appreciate any comments on how I'm doing so far. Suggestions are most welcome, too. Thanks!
