Alito For SCOTUS: Let's Get Ready to Rumble!!!!!

President Bush has nominated 3rd District Court of Appeals Judge Samuel A. Alito as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, replacing the retiring Sandra Day O'Connor. This is a GREAT appointment! Why?

  • Extensive bench experience
  • Conservative with a libertarian streak
  • Decidedly unwilling to legislate from the bench
  • Respectful of precedent, yet not slavishly so.

The best recommendation for the Alito nomination so far is the absolute insanity it has generated among the L3 crowd (Loony Liberal Left). Several of the L3 bloggers have already made scatologically-oriented puns on Judge Alito's name (classy, eh?), and Senators Reid and Schumer are in meltdown mode, with (I'm sure) Kennedy, Leahy, Feinstein, and Boxer soon to follow.

During the Miers nomination, Hugh Hewitt and others warned against looking for a fight simply for the sake of having a fight. Well, the fight is here and it's one that had better be won - for the sake of SCOTUS and the Constitution, if nothing else (and those are two pretty darn important things to fight for).

Be sure to check out some great blogging on the Alito nomination, including:
